Two announcements over the past few weeks deeply reveal the inner workings of two very different Persistent Collaboration Spaces (PCS) vendors and their offerings. My first observation: each announcement pushed squarely along the “comfort vector” of each company - working within the parameters of what each does best.

As a streaming industry stalwart closely associated with its namesake encoding appliances, VBrick historically had been known primarily as a purveyor of video hardware. Finally and definitively, I think we can safely say that image should be dead and buried. Today’s VBrick is a software company, through and through.

Alan spent a day-and-a-half watching a set of Blackboard users threading the needle of learning data analytics. Blackboard achieved two goals: hear advisory input from its base, and foster sharing of best practices. Alan sees much promise, but finds that the entire concept of data analytics in education bears an eerie resemblance to obstacles faced in the past by the collaboration industry.

The GPA continues to make progress on its pledge to simply the global AV environment for enterprise customers - so much so that the GPA recently secured global contracts from one of the world’s largest investment banks and a major pharmaceutical company.
