Setting off what could now be called a streaming-technology acquisition spree, West Corp. has announced plans to purchase webcasting event rival INXPO. Combined with West's purchase of the webcast services unit of NASDAQ OMX in January, Steve sees this as part of a dramatic transformation of West's Digital Media Services Unit. LogMeIn has fired a competitive salvo into the market for self-service online events with the introduction of a revamped GoToWebinar service and the formal launch of an associated site designed to showcase archived webinar content. Steve assesses the company's goal of making even more viral a service that boasts more than 50,000 customers and 2.7 million webinars a year.

After announcing a private beta last month for enabling live video on its enterprise streaming platform for Office 365, Microsoft last week opened up the new live features for public beta. Qumu's earnings call this week was a second dose of good news for a company that has faced financial struggles in recent years. After announcing $9.6 million last month from the sale of its investment in Briefcam, Qumu reported $5.2 million in contract bookings for Q2 2018, and now projects that it will generate $25 million in revenues for 2018. Steve gives his take.
