WebRTC and Enterprise Collaboration

Potential Disruption to UC

WebRTC is considered by many as a potential disruptor to the status quo of audio, video, and collaborative real-time communications. The proposed standard was initiated in May 2011 when Google released an open source project for real-time communications. WebRTC is a set of protocols, codecs, and APIs for peer-to-peer real-time communications. The proposal has been working its way through the contentious standards process within the IETF and W3C but has yet to be approved. The draft standard is currently supported within the Chrome and Firefox browsers.
