From the Lab: Suitable Technologies Beam+

Hands-on testing of a cost-effective robotic telepresence solution

In early January 2017, the WR test team spent some time playing with the Suitable Technologies Beam+ robotic telepresence solution.  The Beam+ is the little brother to Suitable Tech's Beam Pro solution (previously reviewed by WR).

There are two types of robotic telepresence devices;

  • Autonomous devices that can navigate a space independently (meaning without a human operator), and
  • Remotely controlled devices that require an operator to control the unit in real time

The Beam+ device falls into the latter category.

 From the Lab - Overall Rating 4.1 (out of 5)

This document contains additional information about the Beam+, as well as WR's test results and ratings in the following areas:

  • Ease of Use
  • Feature Set
  • Performance
  • Bang for the Buck

Important Note: Those looking at the Beam+ (or similar competing offerings) must understand that the Beam+ is NOT a video conferencing system on a cart.  Instead, the Beam+ is a remotely controlled personal presence device that allows the device operator to move around and talk to people at a remote location.
