Streaming platform provider Panopto today said it is forging a strategic partnership with Ramp, expanding the scope of networking options Panopto offers for enterprise deployments.

Panopto said it will certify interoperability of its platform with two networking solutions developed by Ramp – a content caching device called OmniCache and a software application enabling distribution on multicast-enabled networks called AltitudeCDN. The companies said they also will engage in joint marketing and selling efforts.

The partnership gives Panopto more options in addressing the sometimes challenging networking issues associated with deploying streaming on corporate networks. The company already has an alliance in place with Kollective, a provider of hosted networking solutions that optimize content sharing via managed peer-to-peer systems.

In some cases, organizations will need to implement several different types of solutions to address the specific needs of remote offices with varied streaming requirements and networking resources. The Ramp partnership gives Panopto more alternatives that can be offered to address customers’ networking concerns.

The partnership of Panopto and Ramp underscores the growing trend towards specialization among developers of streaming technologies. By partnering with Ramp to address customers’ networking issues, Panopto is able to focus more of its development resources on enhancing its suite of content creation and content management solutions.

Given the challenges typically associated with corporate networking, we would not be surprised to see Ramp announcing partnerships with other streaming platform vendors that possess an interest in expanding the alternatives they offer for managing the distribution of streaming content behind the corporate firewall.
